Nine Things I’ve Learned This Year

1. I discovered StumbleUpon.com. If you “thumbs up” websites and posts you like, then StumbleUpon will show you similar sites.

Bloggers — StumbleUpon has introduced thousands of visitors to my site. The more thumbs up people give your posts, the more they are shared with the millions of people using StumbleUpon. Come stumble with me!

2. It’s not just about being “vegan” or “vegetarian.” It’s about how it’s presented. It’s about being kind. It’s about everyone becoming aware and making healthier and more compassionate choices.

3. I will avoid unfermented soy.

4. If something is draining too much of my time and energy, it is best to let it go. If it’s meant to be, it will be.

5. I love nut cheese! Oh yes! Its a healthy yet tasty option. In Vancouver, I get my nut cheese fix from the pizza at Gorilla Food and the new OrganicLives at 1829 Quebec Street. There are many nut cheese recipes that can be made at home as well. Here’s an almond ricotta recipe from my favourite chef.

6. There are millions and millions of (young-old-small-medium-large-black-white-grey-golden-shedding-non-shedding) animals being killed in shelters every year. Pets need to be spayed/neutered and when we are choosing a pet, let’s not support breeders, puppy mills or pet stores any longer. Check out this beautiful poem by Janine Allen.

I highly recommend taking dog training classes as well. (It’s more for the human!) My dogs and I attended DogSmart Training classes. Make sure the ones you attend are non-abusive (no-choke chains, etc) and motivational.

7.  “I ADORE you, you crazy, gorgeous, WONDERFUL (but also sometimes quite WEIRD – but still very LOVELY) person.” — Edward Monkton

8. “Some people are born into their passions. Some never get them and don’t care. But I think if you’re really struggling to find it–and I think you have, I mean, you’ve gone all over the country to find it–it’s almost certainly for a reason, I think the depth of your struggling is the sign there’s something there. Something in you that’s trying to get out.” — Po Bronson, author of What Should I Do With My Life?

9. I am on the right path following my heart wherever it leads me.
